Description

The Whale Galaxy or NGC 4631 is a spiral galaxy at a distance of about 28 million light-years from the Milky Way. Its magnitude is 9.0 mag, and its size is 15.2′ × 2.8′. NGC 4627 is a companion galaxy to the Whale Galaxy and lies about 2.6' of its center. The two galaxies are called together Arp 281. The  Hook Galaxy NGC 4656/57 is deformed by former visits at NGC 4631.
